Manta-Manaos Multimodal Corridor

The Bank Information Center offers an overview of the Manta-Manaos multimodal corridor. 

Overall, the project consists of enabling a land route capable of carrying large amounts of cargo from the port of Manta, located in the coastal province of Manabi, to a transfer port located in the Amazonian province of Orellana. From Orellana the goods can be loaded onto ships that cross the Ecuatorian Amazon through the Napo River and go to the port of Nuevo Rocafuerte, on the border of Peru. The cargo is then taken to Manaus and later to Belém, a city in the Brazilian state of Pará.

The Manta -Manaos project has been included within the portfolio of projects of the IIRSA (Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America) as part of the Group 2 projects in the Amazon Axis, and was called "Access Waterway to the Napo.”

The Bank Information Center partners with civil society in developing and transition countries to influence the World Bank and other international financial institutions to promote social and economic justice and ecological sustainability.

In video in this post, inhabitants of the River Napo tell their stories and daily life, tightly linked with this natural resource. They are extremely worried about the direct threat of development projects, that do not respect their rights, nature's rights, culture, traditions and life style.
